Angus & Associates has experience conducting market research using a wide range of research methods - including focus groups.  We work with each client to determine which research method is most appropriate for the situation however we commonly employ focus groups, one on one interviews (face to face or by phone), online surveys, offline electronic surveys and paper based surveys.  We also routinely conduct secondary research which involves compiling and interpreting information from existing or published sources.

I see that some of your work involves ‘benchmarking’.  What are the benefits of benchmarking?

Benchmarking is the process of comparing findings from research with those identified in other businesses or groups.  It can deliver significant competitive advantage by enabling businesses to improve their product and tailor their marketing, thus ensuring their competitive position and helping maintain momentum during patchy market conditions.  For example, beyond simply measuring and understanding customers’ satisfaction within a business, benchmarking satisfaction involves leveraging this information to gain greater insights by comparing findings between businesses.  This will provide greater direction to marketing and product development.

Why should I be concerned about sustainability in my business?

Environmental issues are at the top of the social, political and business agenda in New Zealand and around the world and the need to incorporate environmental behaviour is becoming a reality of the contemporary business environment.

Until recent times the environmental costs of business literally went out with the trash or up in smoke - individual businesses were not held accountable and awareness and concern surrounding environmental issues was low.  Businesses are now increasingly required to recognise their environmental impacts and consider steps to mitigate them.  Pressure to do so is coming from the increasing operational costs of resource use (such as energy use) and waste generation, but also from host communities and other stakeholders who are more interested than ever in environmental matters.

For the tourism industry in particular, a key lesson that has arisen is that the promise of an environmentally unique product must be met with sound environmental management practices, both within individual businesses and via a coordinated, industry response.
